NUMBER SUGAR opened its first specialty caramel shop in 2013, featuring caramels made with natural ingredients and no added artificial fragrances or coloring. The four NUMBER SUGAR branches all have a similar style, with white building exteriors, while the Daikanyama store has a darker red-toned interior. Various caramel gift boxes are displayed on the table in the center, showing so many flavors that the whole setup feels incredibly soothing. NUMBER SUGAR also has a branch in Harajuku, making it one of the must-buy items in Harajuku as well.
As for the price of NUMBER SUGAR, this Tokyo souvenir is sold in paper box packages with different quantities. The most popular option is the box of 12, which comes in a neat square package. The ribbon on top only indicates the color difference; the contents are the same. If it is your first time buying NUMBER SUGAR, I recommend getting the 12-piece box, which includes one of each flavor arranged in numerical order. I first became obsessed with all kinds of pistachio-flavored desserts in Italy, and I originally thought I would not be able to find them after leaving Italy. Unexpectedly, Japan launched a snack brand specializing in pistachio flavors called PISTA&TOKYO, and you can even buy it at Tokyo Station. PISTA&TOKYO’s desserts include sandwich pies, pistachio pavé, round cookies, and pistachio sandwich cookies. I tried the sandwich cookies, which were on the sweet side but had a strong pistachio aroma. I bought the limited-edition French-style small round cookies because the staff said they were very popular and only four boxes were left. When I visited again later, I also thought the raspberry-filled version was very good. The slight tartness balanced the pistachio flavor and made it less sweet. Many people recommend buying baumkuchen from Ginza when traveling to Tokyo, but after trying it myself, I personally prefer Jiichiro Baumkuchen. Jiichiro was recommended to me by a friend as a must-buy item, and after trying it once, I quietly added it to my list of must-buy cakes in Tokyo. However, its shelf life is not very long, so if you plan to give it as a souvenir, you should consider the timing carefully. One bite of Jiichiro Baumkuchen may completely change your impression of baumkuchen. It is extremely soft and melts in your mouth. It is carefully baked with 24 ultra-thin layers of batter, using a method in which the egg yolks and egg whites are whipped separately. This gives it a fluffy, cake-like texture. Everyone who has tried it praises how smooth and delicate it is. Not only is it delicious, but the packaging also looks very refined, making it a perfect gift. Tokyo Banana is a super long-running classic souvenir and almost one of the souvenirs that everyone buys when visiting Tokyo. It is an incredibly fluffy and soft sponge cake filled with banana cream, and the packaging is also extremely cute. Tokyo Banana is a classic Tokyo dessert cake that was first launched in 1991, and it also releases limited-edition flavors from time to time. The limited-edition flavors are based on banana custard cream filling combined with other added flavors. Tokyo Banana’s packaging is also impressive. Personally, I like the Doraemon Tokyo Banana, which is made with Japanese rice flour and is a gluten-free dessert. There is also a Pokémon design, with Pikachu’s face printed on the cake, which is simply adorable. It also contains “Shield lactic acid bacteria” and does not taste too sweet. This must-buy Tokyo dessert shop, Pâtisserie PAROLA (パティスリー・パロラ), became a popular Tokyo souvenir after being recommended by Ken from Bailingguo. Ken even said that the cream puffs here were the best he had ever eaten. Tokyo dessert shop Pâtisserie PAROLA is run by a French chef, and its location is quite special. It is inside a new commercial complex under the elevated railway tracks between JR Hibiya, JR Ginza, JR Yurakucho, and JR Shimbashi. Pâtisserie PAROLA was originally known for its canelés, but after Ken from Bailingguo recommended their cream puffs, many Taiwanese visitors now go there specifically to buy them. However, since cream puffs have a very short shelf life, I bought canelés this time. The outside was crispy, the inside had a moist honeycomb texture, and the vanilla aroma was rich. With one bite, you get multiple layers of texture. It is exactly the kind of canelé I love, and I highly recommend it!

If you love financiers, do not miss DOLCE TACUBO, another must-buy dessert in Tokyo. It was originally a very famous restaurant in Daikanyama and is notoriously difficult to book. However, now you can buy DOLCE TACUBO’s takeaway desserts without making a reservation. The exterior design of DOLCE TACUBO is absolutely beautiful and has become a popular Instagram check-in spot. I tried DOLCE TACUBO’s canelés, as well as freshly baked financiers and cream puffs, and they were all delicious. If you are visiting the Daikanyama or Ebisu area in Tokyo, you can stop by and try DOLCE TACUBO’s freshly baked financiers. Buying them as souvenir gifts is very impressive, and they truly taste amazing. If you love financiers, this is a must-buy.

These Sugar Butter Tree cookies (シュガーバターの木) from Japan’s 7-Eleven are currently a super popular convenience store souvenir. They are a collaboration between the Gin no Budou company and 7-Eleven. The brand itself was already a popular souvenir brand in Japan, but the small-package flavors from the SEVEN collaboration are only available at Japanese 7-Eleven stores. In addition to the original flavor, strawberry, lemon, and other flavors have also been released. The cookies have a layer of sugar on the outside and taste very crispy. Each pack contains three individually wrapped cookies, so if you occasionally just want a small snack, eating one at a time is no problem.
